In preparation for the main challenge Owen has organised a 'warm up'...
"A training event has been organised to take place in Great Langdale, The Lake District beginning on Friday
1st July. This event is designed to test pacing strategies, nutrition plans, equipment, sleeping patterns, routes
and collect data of my body’s capabilities.
Beginning at 6am on Friday 1st July, I will walk up England’s highest mountain - Scafell Pike, then
complete a 240 mile cycle before making a second and final summit of Scafell Pike. The testing is
estimated to finish around mid-day Saturday 2nd July.
This testing event will provide vital data to take forward into the final stages of training and planning. We are
attempting to replicate the challenge conditions as closely as possible. Having said that, it would be great to
have family and friends around to enjoy the experience. Not to mention a fantastic opportunity to spend a few
nights in the great outdoors!
As some of you may have already realised, this is the Euro 2016 Quarter-Final weekend… All of the matches
kick-off at 20:00 Thursday – Sunday and will be shown in the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel bar, just ½ mile walk
from our campsite.
The Langdale valley has many walks varying in length and difficulty. Feel free to join me on a mooch up to
Scafell but I’ll be going my pace, if you’re too slow you’ll be left behind. If you want to run, then you’re probably
madder than me! The route is easy enough and I’ll photocopy maps of the route for you.
Pricing for camping ranges from £13 for a small tent to £23 for a large tent. Pod’s are available from £50
which sleep 2 adults and 1 child. I’m working on other camping options which may be cheaper but roughly
£10 a tent is to be expected.
Let me know if you fancy coming along for the weekend."
