Sunday (27th August) saw the fourth annual Alex Miller Cup where the trend of a new team winning each year was continued.
The Opening Up side, aided heavily by the big hitting of Jameel Stuart and Dan Rowe, defeated a Sefton Park Youth team that included player of the tournament Liam Naylor.
Host team Sefton Park lost in the semi finals to the eventual winners whilst a strong Swan Indies VI, including ex Barbados players Victor Walcott and Terry Rollock, fell short of beating the emerging talents of Sefton Park Youth.
2015 champions Huyton did not progress from the group stages, left there with Paddy Kendall's group playing in the name of C.A.L.M. We were very happy to welcome two sides from the Rochdale region- Tom's Lemons and Hardman's Slugs- who are a regular fixture at such events, raising money and awareness for C-R-Y. Please visit here to find out more about their cause.
Aside from a brilliant day of cricket there was plenty of money raised for both Opening Up and CALM with £973 being split between the two. This means that the original £15,000 fundraising target, established in Alex's memory, has been surpassed by those at Sefton Park.
